Interviews Kenzi Grey-Lacklan, following the incident which may have ended the career of her wife, Sarah Selena Lacklan.
We speak with film star, lingerie football player, and contender to the Ladies All-Star Wrestling Breakout Championship!
CIRCLE TV: Kenzi, I’d like to start off by thanking you for agreeing to this exclusive interview, in the wake of the terrible tragedy that befell your wife, Sarah Lacklan. How much are you willing to discuss with us?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: Well, because the incident does involve a criminal investigation, I can’t go into great detail at the moment, but I can speak to things that were already public. My wife was assaulted by a man in Cincinnati following one of our football games. He was taken into custody and sometime later, while Sarah was proving an additional statement on the matter, this person escaped, kidnapped her, and was involved in a police chase that ended in a serious accident.
CIRCLE TV: We have heard reports that Sarah’s injuries from the accident were relatively minor, and the condition that she is currently dealing with is unrelated to the crash. Can you confirm this?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: I can’t talk about that, because of the active investigation.
CIRCLE TV: Can you talk to us about the person who is accused of this crime?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: I could, but I have no interest in giving that person anymore publicity, especially in light of his crimes. I don’t believe that anyone who intentionally inflicts pain on another person, in the manner in which they are accused, should gain even an ounce of publicity or notoriety.
CIRCLE TV: May we ask what your wife’s present condition is?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: Right now Sarah is classified as being in a state of catatonia. It isn’t constant, in that she has short lucid moments and she is capable of some movement, but she isn’t currently able to function without assistance.
CIRCLE TV: That sounds terrible. So obviously that is a very difficult situation to be in, especially after how boisterous she was known for being.
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: That mouth of hers, love it or hate it, helped to propel her to a championship tournament victory, a tag team title, her first singles championship title in Unified Global Wrestling Coalition, and two other number one contender’s opportunities, concurrently, in two separate promotions. In the short amount of time that she was active as a professional, she really did make the most of it.
CIRCLE TV: I’m sorry to say it, but despite all of that, a lot of people were very happy about the fact that Sarah will probably never return to the ring. In fact, many people went as far as to wish that she died from her injuries. What do you make of that?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: I didn’t see all of the comments, because I don’t follow a majority of the people that apparently live and die by following us, but I can say that in the case of the one person I did see, Gavin Grimes, whom I considered a friend, it was nothing more than a chance for him to do something he couldn’t do when she active. In this business, you live and die through self-promotion. If you are good on the stick, you are going to get yourself over before you set even one foot inside the ring. Good, bad, or whatever. If you get flamed over social media, then that hurts your standing, even if you are a tremendous in-ring performer. You never want your star diminished by getting roasted by another athlete. In Sarah’s case, she was a prolific voice and she had very little issue with going toe to toe with people over social media. Now that she’s not able to do that, the people who couldn’t hang or people who just had an axe to grind came out of the woodwork to try to get themselves over. It’s the nature of the business and it is what it is.
CIRCLE TV: Do you think that Sarah will ever return to action?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: I honestly don’t know. I think in the short time that she had, she showed a lot of people that she was made of and if this is her last go around, she made a very good accounting of herself. In my opinion, she has nothing more to prove, but if she is ever able to return, I’d be all for it.
CIRCLE TV: A lot of people thought that with Sarah’s apparent retirement, that you’d also retire, but you actually have a championship match in Ladies All-Star Wrestling later this month. That would seem to put that rumor to bed right way.
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: I honestly thought about dropping out of that match after Sarah’s accident, and who knows…maybe I still might. The reason I didn’t is because Sarah told me that I needed to keep fighting. Now, I know that doesn’t have to mean inside the ring, but I know for a fact that she was really pulling for me to compete for the LAW Breakout Championship. I really wanted to go out there and win that title…if for no other reason but to see her look at me the way she did when she and I won the Empire Pro Tag Team Titles. Now…that may be a moot point, and honestly, I can’t tell you what will happen with me next, but…right now, I am still fighting and that is because it’s what she wanted out of me. She believed that I was special and now I have to believe it as well.
CIRCLE TV: That championship opportunity will come in the form of a five-way ladder match at Night of Glory against the champion, Etsuko Mitzusaka, Nova Sinclair, Maria Spencer, and last, but not least, a member of the Cool Kids, Milisandre Crowthorne. What are your thoughts on the competitors, especially Milisandre?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: Look, I respect Etsuko, even though I ran her down for only having one title defense for the entirety of her nearly seven month title reign. At least she had the guts to accept my challenge to her after the Queen of the Ring, even though LAW didn’t acknowledge it. As for Nova, Maria, and Milisandre, their performances in the ring have put them on the map for an opportunity as well, so as much as I would like to say that only I deserve it, it’s apparent that the brass thinks differently. I’m not thrilled at the idea of facing all of them at once, but when I win…there will be no doubt that I am the rightful champion and there won’t be a single woman left in the division that can lay claim to being more deserving than me! As for Milisandre...specifically, she and I have issues to work out and we will get them worked out...one way or another.
CIRCLE TV: If you win, do you think it will be a fitting dedication to your wife, given the fact that she had such belief in you?
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: Every day that I spend doing the things that I do in and out of the ring is a dedication to my wife. Every success I owe to her and every failure is an opportunity for me to learn to be better and try harder because I know she is watching me. I have every intention of going out there and winning that match this month…doing it for her!
CIRCLE TV: Kenzi, thank you for taking the time to speak with us, and best of luck at Night of Glory.
KENZI GREY-LACKLAN: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.
