SHINTO GARDEN
Japan
September 1, 2017
Following the devastating revelation that their fairytale wedding was rendered moot by the fact that Kenzi was apparently already married, the pair had continued on with their honeymoon in Japan. Though Sarah was seriously upset, the time away from everything and everyone gave them a chance to reconnect and rekindle the fire between them that had been dosed. After a few days, the two were right back to being themselves...more or less...but something still hung in the air between them. Something new was on Sarah's mind, something she more that she needed to get off of her chest.
Freshly showered and after a delicious Japanese lunch, the pair set out on a stroll among the many colored flowers that made up the botanical garden. The breeze was light and filled with sweet smelling nectar as the sun kissed their skin. Kenzi held her wife's hand, swinging it back and forth with a broad grin on her face that stood against their most recent difficulty. "Tell me...what did you want to discuss?"
Sarah's skin was warm, as well as her insides. She felt like her very soul was warm. This was the life she wanted, a life where Kenzi was unashamed to be with her openly. She had fought hard for this, and she had won the battle, but she knew that she could not settle. "Do you like being a wrestler?"
Kenzi had to answer honestly. "Not always...sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth. I'll admit, you've made it fun for me again."
Sarah nods to herself. "Do you like being an actress?"
Kenzi shrugs. "I like the attention...but, that wasn't my dream. It was forced on me." She paused, and shrugged. "Turns out, I'm pretty good at it."
Sarah nods to herself again. "And being a movie maker? The writing and directing. Do you enjoy that?”
"I do like that. I like creation and I like control." Ken narrowed her eyes. "What's this all about Baby?"
Sarah is silent for a time, just enjoying the walk and garden. "In all honesty, we could sit at home and do nothing for the rest of our lives. But..." She shakes her head. "That is not me. That is not my blood. I must DO something. BE something. I am a wrestler. For now, anyway. And when I feel that I have honored my father, my blood enough, and forged my OWN legacy, I will do and be something else. The face and driving engine of our name in a different venture." She stops and turns to Kenzi, holding both hands, and looking into her eyes. "What do you want to DO, Beloved? What do you want to BE?" She licks her lips. "Take me out of the equation. If you had one...and only one...choice: Actor? Film maker? Wrestler?" She shrugs as her eyes move rapidly. "Something else I haven't thought of? Pick one."
Kenzi paused as she thought about it. There were so many things she wanted to do and be. She had to answer honestly. "I really don't know Baby. Everything...I want to try everything!"
Sarah nods and wets her lips again. "If you wanted to do something...anything...I would support it." She pauses. "Even if that means setting your other careers aside. If you just wanted to be ONE thing...as long as you travel the world with me...I would be happy with that." She nods to herself again. "Yes. I would be happy with that."
"I would only want to be one thing then..." She kissed her Baby's hand. "...yours."
Sarah offers her a smile, but her face falls into thought as they turn to walk again. She couldn't tell if she had successfully planted her seeds or not. "Wonderful garden, don't you think?"
"Yes..." She stopped Sarah, holding her arm. "...what are you trying to ask me Selena? You know that I'm with you...for as long as you want me. Forever and ever."
Sarah grumbles internally about Kenzi needing to work on her nuance, but she could not avoid the call of the name only Kenzi called her. She turns and gives her an open look. "I know that in the past, I have intimated otherwise...but if you told me today that you wanted to quit one of your endeavors, be it wrestling or Hollywood, to commit solely to something, I would not only be fine with it, I would be happy with it." She licks her lips as she thinks about all the pain she was in. Cuts, bruises, and burns. The concussion she had hidden, as well as the very real possibility that she had suffered another in her third match on Sunday. She was learning the hard lesson of taking on too much, of putting herself in too many directions at once. And here she was, or had been, asking Kenzi to do the same thing. She hated how selfish she had been last month "Does that make sense?"
She nodded. "And what about you? This whole fighting the world across the world thing?" She ran her hand along Sarah's arm. "I know how hard it is. I just follow you...and I'm so incredibly tired...I can't imagine how you must feel."
She offers a small smile. "I would be lying if I said I was 100%. Nothing that your attention has not been able to help with." She didn't lie, but she certainly made truth dance for her. She enters into a silent debate with herself. Press the subject on her mind? Or hold off? "If..." She licks her lips. "If you wanted to...retire...I would love for you to take Sid's job."
Kenzi pauses, her mouth going dry as the implications of what she was saying hit her. She could feel herself heat up inside...she could feel a bit of anger peek through, but even more than that...terrible embarrassment. She didn't know if Sarah really meant it the way it sounded to her, but the impact on her was the same. She smiled, but it was strained. "Tha-that's great. I...I'll think about it."
The two walked hand in hand, a deep and brooding silence taking hold between the two of them as Sarah’s words hung in the air. Though what she said had no malice in it, it stung Kenzi deeply in a way she had not expected should be.
Kenzi wiped her eyes as she took a deep breath and sighed. "WHOA! The pollen out here, huh?" She knew that her singles match performance in Empire Pro Wrestling and recently at the Ladies All-Star Wrestling Queen of the Ring pay-per-view wasn't great...hell...it wasn't even good. She had failed to legitimately win any singles matches in Empire Pro and then the embarrassment of winning her first match in LAW by DQ and losing her second to Gabby Camacho left a bitter taste in her mouth. She wasn't sure that she wanted to go on afterwards...but seeing her Baby fight and win an opportunity at a title...a real title, not a hardcore one...not hit people with 2x4s title…Sarah’s opportunity was special. It was what she wanted. It was what she still wanted...but Sarah's words made it clear that maybe what her mother kept telling her was true...she didn't have it...she never would. Kenzi checked the time. "Hey...probably time to head back inside, huh?"
"Yeah." Sarah takes her hand so they can walk. "Want to buy the garden? Having it transported to the compound would be a nice memento of our honeymoon, don't you think?"
Kenzi laughed, despite herself. "How fucking rich are you exactly?"
Sarah raises her eyebrow. "We, Beloved. We. Never forget that." She looks at Kenzi through her peripherals. "At last audit? Five."
Kenzi eyes her. "Million?"
Sarah thinks about lying. She almost does. But she cannot. "With a 'B'"
Kenzi couldn't hide her shock. That was the kind of money that they only said on the parts of the news no one listened to. "God...that's fucking gross!" Kenzi burst out laughing, trying her best to sound natural. "How are you not like a Hilton or a Kardashian? Jean Paul did a damn good job on you girl, damn good."
Sarah raises her eyebrow again. "Because whipping servants who meet my eyes is not enough of an eccentricity?" She shrugs. "Mind you, that number INCLUDES all the land. And the island. It isn't THAT much." She scowls. "Quite a few of the other metal magnates are in the TEENS!"
She elbows Sarah, then winks. "Keeping it humble, huh?"
Sarah thinks about her massive collection of clothing and jewelry. "Totes humble." Mischief enters her eyes. "I am serious about making you wear nothing but jewels to bed one of these days." She giggles. "Maybe even out to dinner." Sarah giggles as her phone goes off...again...with ANOTHER pic of her up on Kenzi's page. "We should go somewhere where I can wear this properly." She grins at Kenzi. "Without the tank top underneath. It SO takes away from the translucent effect."
Kenzi raises an eyebrow. She had never cared about money, except when she needed it for one of her whacky schemes. She knew that Sarah was rich, but how rich was a shock, but she was over it. She didn't care about money, never had. Apparently she never would have to ever again, but the idea of such a vulgar display wasn't really her cup of tea either. She sighed and put her arm around Sarah, trying to forget that she had pretty much just asked her to quit wrestling. It shouldn't have bothered her, but it did. Not that she thought...but that she herself still thought that she could make it work. "Let's go dancing...or something...anything."
Sarah's eyes light up. "Dancing sounds fun."
"Dancing it is!" Anything to take her mind off the 2 foot hole her wife and just put in her chest.
